Carousel Farm is as unique as they come for a county park. This former dairy farm features horseback-riding lessons, outdoor and indoor riding rings, and yes, even pony rides. But it is equally known for its 10-acre, off-leash dog park, complete with a pond for water dogs.

Some visitors may be surprised to find that Carousel Park has a network of wooded, hillside trails. Most resemble gravel roads. However, hikers will be happy to discover dirt paths stretching west from the park's office, where trail maps are available. The variety of this terrain makes it especially popular among trail runners.

Other popular attractions include hayrides, picnic areas, and a perimeter walking path of more than three miles. The large pond offers the potential for catch-and-release fishing. And recent additions include a western-themed playground and farm animals, like chickens, donkeys, ducks, goats, peacocks and, of course, horses. This even includes those used by New Castle County's Mounted Patrol.

Carousel Farm has a variety of entrances. This includes two main entrances off Limestone Road. There are also dog-park entrances off both Skyline Drive and Old Linden Hill Road. Lastly, park-and-walk entrances can be found off New Linden Hill Road and elsewhere.

This park is open from dawn until dusk. Port-o-potties and bathrooms are available, the latter of which can only be found at the mock Old West town, just steps from the office.
