The Bethany Beach Nature Center opened in 2009 inside one of the town's earliest cottages. Visitors can explore interactive exhibits, including “Our Inland Bays...A Delicate Balance.” This exhibit, created in part by the Center for the Inland Bays of Rehoboth Beach, tells the story of the Inland Bays estuary using a state-of–the-art feature called an “I-Wall.”
Outside, hikers can explore a native plant garden, three acres of forested uplands, more than nine acres of freshwater wetlands, and 14 acres of tidal wetlands. A handicap-accessible boardwalk has been built to lead you through each habitat, and educational signage exists to keep you informed along the way.
The Bethany Beach Nature Center is operated by the town of Bethany Beach. It is open Wednesday through Sunday, from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and the trail is open daily from dawn until dusk.
