Hidden behind a stone wall on one of Wilmington's busiest streets is an early 20th Century garden that has long been considered a gem by people in the know. While small, many say it rivals any of those found at Longwood Gardens and Winterthur Country Estate.

This urban oasis features landscaped walkways that wind past Italian statues, a wide variety of plants, and a beautiful water garden on its way to the Gibraltar estate's popular tea house. It's a wonderful example of what homeowners can do to green their own properties using that underused swimming pool or unkept lawn.

Don't let the forbidding stone walls fool you. The grounds of Gibraltar are open to the public from dawn until dusk, and they are free to enter. We recommend weekend visits for a chance to see wedding parties posing for photos on their big day.
